Monitoring the earth ' s resources from space - Can you really identify crops by satellite ?

چکیده
Of the most important questions facing society today, those near the top of the list include the status and future of the world's food supply, its environmental quality and its sources of energy. These questions have increasingly been before the general public in recent years and have for an even longer period of time, been of concern to the world's thinkers, planners and policy makers . It had long been recognized that after all, our earth and its resources are finite and that as society continues to grow we must find better ways to manage these finite resources. A primary need for good management is up-to-date and accurate information on the status of the resources to be managed. Thus it was that early in the last decade the possibility of using aerospace technology for accumulating better information about the current conditions of agriculture, the earth's resources and man's environment began to be examined. It seemed clear that to monitor resources directly associated with the land, the best vantage point would be above the land looking down upon it. The need to be higher simply resulted from the need to see more. In practical terms this immediately implies the gathering of larger and larger quantities of data, and the computer was immediately suggested therefore, as somehow an important tool. But how? There now exists a first generation answer to this question. The program of systematic and step-by-step research which led to it, will first be briefly outlined. After description of some typical examples of its use, we will examine the directions being taken to devise an even more effective second generation solution.

The Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) was successfully launched on Jan. 24, 2006, from Tanegashima Space Center, Japan. The objectives of ALOS are [1]: (1) to provide maps for Japan and other countries including Asia-Pacific region (Cartography), (2) to perform regional observation for "sustainable development", harmonization between Earth environment and development (Regional Observatio...
متن کامل1 Earth Observation – Space Technology
For monitoring of the Earth thousands of satellites have been sent into space on missions to collect data related different spheres of the Earth investigations and studies. Today, the ability to forecast weather, climate, and natural hazards, environmental monitoring and ecological issues depend critically on these satellite-based observations. Based on this data it is possible to gather satell...

Decline phenomenon is one of the most important reasons for the destruction and mortality of oak trees in Zagros forests due to the wide variety and diversity of the topography of its determination through track and field operations is not readily possible. Changes in an ecosystem are often gradual changes, but sometimes changes occur in an ecosystem in a short time. This change can cause a ...

Gavkhouni wetland located in the center of Iranchr('39')s Plateau is one of the important habitat for native flora and fauna. The present study aimed to evaluate change trend of vegetation types and Soil Moisture Index in Gavkhouni wetland since recent 16 years. Vegetation types were identified via field visitation during 2011-2017 and the maps were generated in ArcGIS 10.5. SMI is derived us...
متن کاملLand Cover Subpixel Change Detection using Hyperspectral Images Based on Spectral Unmixing and Post-processing
The earth is continually being influenced by some actions such as flood, tornado and human artificial activities. This process causes the changes in land cover type. Thus, for optimal management of the use of resources, it is necessary to be aware of these changes. Today’s remote sensing plays key role in geology and environmental monitoring by its high resolution, wide covering and low cost...
